Now for the news around here.
This week we remembered the first foreign attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. I can’t believe it has been 18 years since 9-11 tore my safe little world apart.
I remember where I was when the first plane hit the twin towers. I had been working for a tech company and was the only person in the office. Everyone else were on sales calls. (It was a 5 person company). The owner entered the office in a hurry and turned on the small TV in his office. He said a plane had just hit the the towers.
We watched together while the coverage of the incident continued. A few weeks earlier another small plane had entered the air space over the White House. So we weren’t terribly concerned about terrorism. We were both watching in horror as it became apparent something was terribly wrong. I called my boys schools not trusting what could happen next. I told them I was coming to pick up my boys. I tried to devise a plan to make sure all 4 of us would be safe and together.
All air traffic was grounded as 2 more planes hit their targets. I hear all kinds of statements about “lest we forget.” I can’t believe anyone could forget. The movies and images keep us from forgetting. The tragedy continues with the diseases and deaths of those responding to calls and cleaning the debris. The lives impacted will never be the same. This day will be forever burned in the minds of Americans and those around the world as well. We are all forever changed.
I would love to hear from you in the comments on where you were when you heard of the tragedy.
