Now for the news around here.
I really needed some down time this week. I mean, we all do right?
Miss Jo and her Girl Scout troop went hiking on the trails at our local Metro Park.
They had so much fun feeding birds by hand. They also saw a few swans in the lake.
When she got home she was so excited as she told me of her experience feeding the birds.
They bought some seed at the welcome center and were given strict instruction of how and where to feed. And also not to feed anything to the birds but the seeds they had.
It was so much fun for the girls to be able to get together, safely, and in person.
The smiles on their faces spoke volumes to the joy they had getting out in nature, being together, and discovering the new life in the animals and trees.
What I didn’t realize immediately is what she actually meant about feeding the birds.
As the other girls enticed the different bird to eat their seed, Miss Jo wasn’t able to get any of them interested in her seeds.
True to her form, she moved a bit away from the girls and found her own enthusiastic hungry birds.
She even had a short video made for us to watch.
Can you name the birds she got to hand feed?

Those are wild Sand Hill Cranes.
We have many around where we live and they are quite tame here because of the golf course.
Even then, though, they never get very close to people. They know when to back off and when to pick their spots to eat and rest.
Her cranes though had their own ideas.
Kids. They teach us all we need to know. When to accept each other, and when to be on their own.

I love that your granddaughter was able to have an outing with her Girl Scout troop! That sandhill crane is so large! I know they migrate north and stop in certain places on the way — I would love to see that someday!
Have a wonderful week!
She did Pat. They are all over the states. And much bigger than geese. This one would have intimidated me. I sometimes wonder how safe her boldness lets her be. Being surrounded by lakes and golf courses here we see them as often as squirrels. But usually only in groups of 3. Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
Thanks for hosting and featuring my Pizza Rolls, stay safe and healthy…
