Now for the news around here.
Well, it has been another ride this week.
My iPad went out smoking. My loving husband ordered me the new 13″ MacBook Pro since it ended up being cheaper and having more options than a new iPad.
And it came by courier in just 2 hours!!
But I am warning you now. Be careful what you wish for.
I thought after 7 years on the iPad I was ready to take off the training wheels and put on my big girl pants.
Let’s just say a BIG NO!!!
I only used my husbands Mac for things like zoom and meetings.
That is way different than learning a whole new way to get things done.
I could write an entire novel but I will spare you and only provide the top 100 things on my ToDo list. I will cut that back though too.
First off not only can I NOT migrate from the cloud, I learned I really can’t backup like normal as our external hard drive isn’t compatible. Put that on my to do list.
Next, I needed to set up my user and admin. Understanding Hubby did that.
I then did the “pretty” of the computer by adding backgrounds and bookmarks (which weren’t there and they still don’t prompt me.)
I finally figured out how to add LastPass, but I am beginning to hate I have auto pw and 2 factor authorization on everything. Of course my Lastpass ID and PW are on Google Docs.
But I didn’t have Google Drive, or even Chrome. So no passwords or even bookmarks.
That is the first time I asked the Lord for help. calmly.
And I heard Him respond with a belly laugh from the den.
I was able to get a lot of my programs back, but still no drive or chrome.
I started calling louder for help and Miss J came and told me to “settle down and go take a walk”. I did.
When I came back I found a note on the table saying I needed to leave 4 Kit Kats and then follow the directions.
There was a new user called Your Angel and the password was on the note.
I heard a choir of angels singing! My Angel had everything, or almost, that I was asking for!
I figured out how to get my mail, messages and increase font size on them. But still no luck grabbing an image, adding a new one, resizing, compressing or making collages. That is on my todays To Do List.
And my favorite Solitaire game and Suduko were not there. But I had Chrome and Docs and Lastpass working so I have been happy.
But of course I needed to access social media. Everything was different and I couldn’t even find my feed, notifications, etc. Of course Instagram didn’t work until my Angel gave me directions on posting to it from FB.
This however, cost me 4 more Kit Kt bars.
I am dumfounded why Squoosh won’t let me save to Drive. Or why when I rename it won’t stick, or why I can’t even add to my Photos. Screenshots are still a mystery.
I have an emoji that came up writing this that I can’t move, delete, or click. It seems to be permanent on all screens. One more thing to add to my to do list.
I asked the Lord for help again and a paper airplane came down from the overhang on the stairs. It asked for 4 more Kit Kat bars. I was sweating as I was running out. Maybe cookies and milk would suffice?
Today I am getting a bit more used to using preferences etc at the very top above my command bar. Who knew they were there? But somehow this touchpad thing above the keys on my keyboard keeps flashing every time I type.
And I keep trying to touch the screen but it never works. How to clean off fingerprints is also on my list.
After the third day, the meeting list from my angel let me know the only time slots open were after dinner. I cried again. It seems crying and snacking is all I do now.
While muttering out loud about how all the searches were giving me things that weren’t an option I tried, I saw Miss J walk behind me and I heard that now familiar belly laugh again.
I loudly informed my Angel the Kit Kats were gone and no more cookies and milk were not available either. I got a hug and she replied “I am sure there is a huge stash somewhere in heaven and she went off to go back to her schoolwork.
How humiliating that a 12 year old can use a computer better than I can. I am humbled.
But I am still keeping the angel user for a backup if needed! And tomorrow I am buying 2 more large bags of Kit Kats for the table!
