Now for the news around here.
It was such a lovely morning yesterday! The sprinklers on the golf course had just shut off. The sun was shining perfectly through the slats of the railing and onto the deck.
As I was waiting for my morning bagel to finish toasting I took in the fresh uplifting view.
It was then that I noticed it.
One of the largest most perfect spider webs I have ever seen!! And it was on my deck, built so I could see it without missing the web.
The droplets of water left by the sprinklers were glistening in the rays of the morning sun.
This web had to be at least 3 1/2 feet in length. It spanned from the rail to the nearest chair.
A fairly large spider was sitting in the center of the web. It was a scene out of the childrens story Charlottes’s Web.
I considered myself blessed this morning just watching from afar.
I wanted to take a picture, but my nature photography skills don’t compare to anyone that would have done justice to the vision.
It was at that moment I saw a small insect light on the top string. Perhaps it saw the droplet and came for a drink? But the spider had other ideas. Quick as the eye could see he was on top of the little bug.
They were both frozen for a moment unil the spider decided the little insect was ready to either eat or encase in the web? I couldn’t tell. But the spider quickly returned to the center awating its next victim.
I pondered about which I would be. The hunter? The prey?
The prey gave its life for that spider because it was stronger and in a better position. The little bug didn’t have a chance. He was swept into the spider’s grasp because he wanted a drink and a nice place to rest.
Just as I was deciding, I reached over to grab my coffee cup when I turned it over. Hot coffee spilled all over me and burned my legs.
It was at that moment I realized I was definitely the prey. I too was swept into that spider’s web. The perfect place to let admirers come not knowing the true purpose of the web.
I didn’t like that thought. I was determined that the rest of the day I would be the spider. The top of the food chain!! Making a better life and being the person I wanted to be. I wan’t going to let someone elses plans sweep me up to bring negativity in to my life. That would give my power to another person and give up my own. I am only hurting myself.
I hope you all remain true to yourself and your goals today. In charge of your destiny and futures. Don’t waste your energy on those that will suck the life out of you.
