Now for the news around here.
Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you had a restful week! The weather here has been much the same as around the U.S. except instead of snow we had rain. But that didn’t keep most of the temps from dropping and we ended up with ice.
My son plays hockey on a mens league on Monday nights at 11:00 p.m. And as most of you know I live in an area of lakes, farms, golf courses and wetlands. That means we are on a semi busy two lane road with many curves. One of these is very close to the entrance of my sub. And because of the wetlands we get lots of critters. The deer like to pass through that stretch from one wetland to another. So we go slow around those curves as visibility is reduced and more often than not we see deer.
Ok. So, Monday night my son was coming home and slowed down in case there was critter traffic. He hit a patch of black ice and ended up hitting a huge tree. He bought a truck a few months ago and I am convinced that saved him. Had he been in the Vibe I am sure we this story would have a different ending. He was left with some severe bruises from the seat belt but was otherwise just dazed. The owner of the farm is a nice gentleman we know from church. He happened to be up at the late hour and came to make sure my son was ok and called the police to come. That is when he told my son he was awake because not an hour earlier a woman in a small car had hit the ice coming from the other way. She wasn’t as lucky. Her car hit a huge boulder and moved it a good 5 ft. It caused her to go airborne, crash into his gate, run into the shed, and she rolled the car at least three times. By the time the ambulance got there she was gone. She had 3 small children. We are grateful no one ended up in the wetlands. The cattails are as high as corn in June and in places it is quite deep. I am sure they wouldn’t have been found for a while. And that is a dead zone for cell phones. I am still upset over it all. And my granddaughter won’t let her dad out of her sight. It is so sad. Our church has come together to help take care of the family of the woman. People can be so good.
