Now for the news around here.
As you know we were in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina for vacation recently. We stay right on the beach where it is a 5 minute walk to the ocean. The last 10 years we have rented the same condo, but this year we decided to up our game. We had reserved a third floor corner condo. It had a loft area so there are two decks, one for sunrise and one for sunset. The unit also boasted 3 bedrooms all with their own bathroom. We dreamed of this vacation and the new condo for 7 months. Then, on the day before we were going to leave we got a call. A pipe had broken in the unit and we couldn’t stay there!! We were devastated since it was middle of July and last minute and where would we stay? There were 2 units not rented, both on the first floor. We chose the 3 bedroom 3 bath since there would be 4 of us. The kicker was it was next to the pool with the path to the ocean in between. We were assured there would still be privacy, and they cut the cost in half for our trouble so we agreed. I watch a LOT of HGTV so I was thrilled to find this unit had an open concept, stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, granite throughout and each space was large. (How did I do?). The added security was great except I hate learning new things or dealing with change. The lobby to the elevators had a keypad to get in. (There is a parking garage under the first floor so elevator was key.) we looked all over and couldn’t see the keypad. After calling, we were told the huge phone that looked like it was from the 60’s was the keypad. We were IN!! The guys carried all the luggage upstairs while I waited. Of course I didn’t have the keycode for the unit door. We got right in. Well, the first time. There was a trick to have that thing work. Once you pulled the door shut you couldn’t pull twice or turn the knob to check it was locked. Doing so caused the bolt to get out of line and jammed the door. When we came back from dinner we couldn’t get in. I sat on the ground while we waited for the after hours maintenance to call back. 3 hours later we were in! I was a bit crabby. Well a lot crabby. I stomped my feet, cried and exhaled quite loudly all night. I don’t like change! Once we figured it out though all was fine. The next day the guys went to the beach while I relaxed in the AC. I kept hearing this noise like a smoke detector and every time I got up to check it would stop. About 20 minutes before the guys came back for lunch it started to blare. There was a fire alarm outside our door that had malfunctioned due to moisture! The firetrucks came and there was a bunch of hoohaw. But it all turned out well as there was no fire. And we even got a Domino Pizza coupon for a free large 4 topping pizza! LOL. The weather was wonderful and only rained once. The food was great. The company even better. And the trip was so relaxing after that first day. A few hiccups for a beautiful half price vacation was well worth it.
