Hot Red Wings Popcorn
Next game night, instead of having popcorn and candy, have candy popcorn instead!
It’s sweet, spicy and salty all at once. There is nothing but deliciousness in that bowl.
And if it makes the Detroit Red Wings hot, it will surely be hot for you!
If they win, you are going to have to make it every time they play.
Added to a bowl of popcorn is a syrup made from marshmallows, hot tamale candy, sugar, baking soda, butter and corn syrup.
The topping will stick to the popcorn and you are ready to go!
these are the INGREDIENTS you will need:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons corn syrup
- 5.5 oz box Hot Tamales, or 3 alarm Hot Tamales
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- 2 tablespoons Dixie Crystals Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 6 cups popped popcorn
these are the INSTRUCTIONS for preparation:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place popcorn in a large bowl, set aside.
- In a medium size non-stick pan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add corn syrup, Hot Tamales, mini marshmallows and sugar.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until Hot Tamales have melted completely. This should take about 8 minutes. The mixture will be very sticky. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda.
- Pour the mixture over the popcorn, and stir to completely coat the popcorn. Pour popcorn out onto parchment paper and let cool for 10 minutes.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
When you bring out the bowls the eyes of your family will get wide with as they wonder just what you have made now.
The bright red color comes from the Hot Tamale Candy and the stronger the candy the stronger the popcorn tastes.
This popcorn can be refrigerated for up to 3 days when kept in an airtight container.
From prep to first bite the while dish is ready in 20 minutes.
But believe that is longer than it takes to refill the bowls.
Make sure you have enough on hand. Those bowls get empty quickly.
Root for your hockey team to be a winner.
Because when you serve this hot and colorful popcorn you will also be a winner with your family!
