What are the uses Hot Bacon Dressing?

That depends on you!

I mainly use it for different types of salad greens. Spinach, Kale and even my Southern Salad change from delicious to spectacular when I pour it right on top!

These are the INGREDIENTS you will need:

  • 8 Slices Bacon, cooked
  • 1 1/2 Cups white sugar
  • 3 Tsp Corn starch
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup White vinegar
  • 1/2 Cup mayonnaise, optional for creamy dressing

These are the INSTRUCTIONS For preparation:

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside. Microwaveable is an option.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch and salt, and slowly pour in water and vinegar, whisking constantly.
  • In a medium skillet, add the crumbled bacon and pour the vinegar mixture over it. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  • Serve over the greens or put in a container to allow for individual use.
  • Store left over dressing with a tight lid for later use.

NOTES

  • Add walnuts for a crunchier texture.
  • Any style of bacon cane be used. I use the microwaveable.
  • Add 1/2 cup mayonnaise for a creamy style dressing.

The bacon can be smoked, thick or microwaved. It is all up to you.

When you add sliced eggs, potatoes and cheddar cheese or even walnuts to your greens you have more than a meal. It become dinner all wrapped up into one bowl!

That warm bacon dressing will slowly run in to the leaves of your greens and spread through to the bottom of the bowl.

I find wilted spinach works best for my family. The slight sweetness of the sugar mixed with the acid of the vinegar gives your dressing that bite you need to take your salad over the top!

Want a creamier dressing? Add 1/2 cup of mayonnaise to the mix.

Either way my family loves homemade dressings.

And they are so easy to make I don’t mind serving a dressing with no added preservatives.

But don’t let them know I told you that.

So glad to have this recipe. I ate so much of it once when I was just home from Panama, craving home cooked meals and 8 months pregnant, that I made myself sick! It is just delicious.
