Green Velvet Cupcakes
I am so excited this year to be able to bring out some of my dusty recipes for St Paddy’s Day!
This cupcake one in particular is such a great pick for your child’s school party, team treat, ballet class or team dinner!
Kids love cupcakes and these will go fast.
The best part is Pillsbury has such a wide variety of colored batters you can choose one (or two) that are significant to your event.
Or you can just take a white cakes mix and some food coloring. Add 2 drops at a time and mix to make sure your color isn’t too vibrant!
I like making cupcakes to take with me for occasions.
I never did like to eat them though!
No matter how careful I am the icing ends up on my nose.
And no matter how you cut it that is not an appealing look.
Someone told me they pull the cupcake in half and turn the icing to the middle.
Problem solved!!
These are the INGREDIENTS you will need:
- 1 package Pillsbury® Green Velvet Cake Mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 container Pillsbury® Creamy Supreme® Classic White Frosting
- green sugar crystals
These are the INSTRUCTIONS for preparation:
- HEAT oven to 350°F. Line muffin cups with paper baking cups. Prepare cake mix according to package directions using water, oil and eggs. Divide evenly into prepared muffin cups being careful not to fill to top.
- BAKE 19 to 23 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
- FROST cupcakes with white frosting. Sprinkle immediately with green sugar crystals.
Go ahead, think out of the box! Let me know YOUR favorites in the comment section.

Thank you Stacy. I am glad you like the green velvet cupcakes! Enjoy.
Green Velvet cupcakes??!! These will be making an appearance at my house this St. Patrick’s day! Do they tase like red velvet or like plain boxed cake?
I dont think red velvet has its own taste. They taste just like a white or yellow mix. The trick is if you color your own, the more dye you use the more you can taste it. This was a green velvet box mix so it wasnt that way. Thanks for sharing tonight and enjoy your week!
I’ve been to Target, Meijer and Jewel looking for this mix, where did you find it? I haven’t checked Walmart yet.
I have seen it at the grocery, meijer and kroger but it is seasonal. You can add 1/2 teaspoon green food color to white or yellow cake mix. I would use a white one. Blend it really well and you can darken it by 1 drop at a time. Go slow and mix well in between. I have done this with blue so it should work. Good luck!
I enjoy cupcakes, even tho I too get icing up my nose haha! But they are worth it to me 🙂 This is a nice treat for St Patrick’s Day. I never knew there was a green velvet cake mix, but must just be for March.
Thanks Dawn. I thought I was the only one with icing up my nose. That and spaghetti. I hate it unwinds and I try to catch it and get sauce all over my face. You can’t take me anywhere! LOL. Enjoy your week.
These are perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!! I bet they are quite yummy too!!
Thanks so much for hosting each week!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thank you so much Debbie! These great velvet cupcakes were made for the St Patrick school party for my granddaughter. Enjoy your week.

I’ve seen these at my grocery store and they fly off the shelves!
I can imagine. Moms that need something special and easy would love these!
Marilyn, I didn’t even know they made green cake mix; I’m so out of the loop. 😉 Thanks for sharing the recipe!
You are very welcome Keri! It is extremely hard to find in the stores so don’t think you are the only one!
Hi Marilyn, your cupcakes look amazing and great for St Patricks and perfect for sharing on Friday Features last week. Now I have Pinned and it is one of our features this week. Hope to see you soon!
Have a wonderful week!

You are welcome Emily! It is vibrant, isn’t it?
These look fun, fun, fun for St. Paddy’s Day! I love red velvet so green velvet has to be good, right?? The kids would think these were so cool!
Al the velvet taste the same to me. But I love the vibrant colors. Can you imagine taking those to ballet or soccer??
Perfect for St. Pat’s day! Thanks for sharing with Funtastic Friday!
Thank you Heidi! Happy Valentine’s Day!
I had no idea that they made green velvet cake mix. It sure looks fun and festive.
They make red, green, blue, pink and black. But they atrn’t easyto find, even on Amazon. I frquently need to cheat by add ing food color to a white cake mix. I am going to make my own purple and orange. We will see how that tastes!
I have a sister in law that would love purple velvet cake! Thanks for sharing with us at Together on Tuesdays.
It is gorgeous too. A nice lavendar.
Marilyn, Never heard of green velvet – what a fun idea for St. Patrick’s Day! Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful week! Pinning 🙂
~Laurie
Oh, there is green, blue, red, pink, and even black! The trick is finding the cake mixes in your store. I have been cheating and adding food dye to a white cake mix! Shhhhh! Our secret. Have a happy Valentine’s Day!
I’ll never tell . . .but thanks for the idea 🙂 Take care Marilyn!
Green velvet! What a fun idea that is. Thanks for sharing this on the Friday Funday Blog Hop #FFBH!
Thank you Jamie for stopping by and commenting. It is one of the things I like about Friday Funday!
Great recipe and thanks for sharing with us on Throwback Thursday & can’t wait to see what you’ll bring this week!
Thank you Quinn! See you tomorrow.
Great recipe, Marilyn. I love the green velvet! Thanks for sharing at Funtastic Friday!
You are so welcome. I love Funtastic Friday!
I had no idea Pillsbury made green velvet cake mix. The color is great- bright, bold, and festive. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I saw your cupcakes on Tickle My Taste buds.
Thanks Scarlett. Pillsbury makes “Holiday Velvets”. Red and green pastel blue, pink, yellow. Bright for spring. Etc. However tney are very hard to find in the stores. If I dont order from Amazon then I use a white cake mix and food coloring! (Cheap and lazy) LOL. THANKS FOR STOPPING BY FROM #TickleMyTastebuds!
As soon as I saw the title I knew it was you! Red velvet, green velvet! I associate them with you. These look delish. What a great treat for St. Patrick’s Day!
Thanks Nikki. Am I that predictable? I have pink. I have blue velvet and black velvet ready to go, too!

Marilyn, what a great idea. They look scrumptious! And of course, there’s a bit of genius in the idea! Thanks for bringing this by Throwback Thursday; we’re already looking forward to what you’ll be bringing next week.
Mollie
Thank you Mollie for the comment and the kind words.
Yummed and Pinned. I never heard of Green Velvet cake before!
It is very hard to find Susan. I have also used white cake mix and green food dye. Thanks for the love!
Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day! Bring these and more to Party at My Place. Dust off your oldies for next week’s party – I know you have some!!
I didn’t get my St Paddy’s posts out early enough this year! I wll get them ready, Michelle!
These are so cool! they would be great for halloween too, monster cupcakes :p I love this idea, I have never made different colours before (only icing, or chocolate cupcakes) but you could do so much experimenting !
And the Grinch! You need to make these and put thm up on your blog! The kids love the way they turn their tongues green.
Guess I dont look at the new stuff on the baking shelves, I did not know that there was a Green cake mix, how clever and fun to make these yummy cupcakes!!
Thank you for dropping by to share your ideas and inspiration on the #OMHGFF this week!
Hope you will have a beautiful weekend!

Thanks Karren. The green velvet is impossible to find around here. I got this from Pillsbury as a promotion. You can also use a white mix and green food dye.

How fun and YUMMY! I’ve never heard of green velvet cake but I’m sure going to look for it now!
Thanks CD! I know you can get it online for sure. Here in Michigan it is very hard to find. You can use a white cake mix with green food dye as well! Good luck!
I am ashamed as an Irish Person that I dod not do much for Paddy’s day but these cakes look great so I am very tempted – thank you for sharing with Pin worthy Wednesday Marilyn
I hope they inspired you! And they are colorful, too.
These are fun! I’ve never seen green velvet cupcake mix. These cupcakes would be perfect for today, Dr. Seuss Day. 🙂
XOXO
Aren’t they adorable? The green velvet is extremly hard to come by here in Michigan. You can achieve the same thing with a white cake mix and green food coloring. Have a great day!
This would be such a fun dessert for our St. Patricks day dinner. Yum!
It really would Charlene. And the kids would love them! Thanks for the comment!
These are adorable and perfect for St. Patty’s day! Green is my favorite color, so I’m totally on board 🙂
Thank you Jessie. I don’t make many recipes with that much food dye, but these are soooo cute and the kids love them! Thanks for commenting.
Yumm!! Thanks for sharing at Dishing It & Digging It!
You are welcome Lori. I love partying with you.
These are simply beautiful!!
I love the way the white color makes them quite elegant 🙂
Thank you Winnie. That means a lot to me coming from you! Have a wonderful day.
These look so festive for St Patrick’s Day. Thanks for sharing at Snickerdoodle Sunday, Marilyn.
Thank you Beverly for the compliment. I enjoy partying with you at Snickerdoodle Sunday!
green cakes always seem a bit strange to me – but these ones are quite amazingly delicious looking (and if they taste like red velvet ones do then that’s an added bonus!) Thanks for sharing at our #OTM link up ~ Leanne 🙂
I know what you mean Leanne. Blue food makes me cringe. But somehow cupcakes are different.
Great idea for St. Pat’s Day. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome Sarah. Thanks for leavng a comment.

Green Velvet? I like it!
Thanks for joining the What’s for Dinner linky party!!
Yes Helen. Green Velvet. I also have Blue Velvet, Pink Velvet and Black Velvet along with the tired Red Velvet!
These look delicious!
Thanks for commenting Alice! They are. See you soon.
Green is such a fun color for cupcakes! Thanks for sharing your post at the #AnythingGoes Link Party.
Thanks Sandy. I just love bright colored treats!
These are so pretty, and I didn’t know that there was a green velvet cake mix. I have to find it at the store.
Heidi, thanks so much for commenting! The green velvet is extremely hard to find and I think only Pillsbury makes it. But you can take a white cake mix and turn it any color you like. I use India Tree food coloring because it doesn’t contain dyes, but any coloribg or gel works. just add a few drops at a time until you achieve the color you want! Usually about 4 drops will do it unless you want a deep color. Good Luck!
These look delicious! Thanks for sharing on the Wake Up Wednesday link party!
