Ginger Ale Baked Ham
I have made ham in many different ways over the years. My family’s favorite though is a boneless ham.
You will see this recipe on my table for every holiday or large family gathering. My brother-in-law brings a whole boneless ham to the gathering.
I add another type also for those that prefer a bone-in ham.
Not only is this Ginger Ale Baked Ham delicious but it is fast and only requires 3 ingredients. This includes the ham itself!!
It doesn’t get any easier than this.
This recipe is great for diabetics. Just switch out the brown sugar for Sukrin Gold. You can find it on Amazon.
Of course any other sugar free brown sugar is good. I have even substituted pure maple syrup on a 1:1 measurement.
Make sure it is pure maple syrup. It does make a huge difference if you don’t.
There will be plenty of liquid to cook the ham. And there will also be some juices leftover for post cooking basting.
My husband has been seen using the leftover. Juices as he would gravy.
These are the INGREDIENTS you will need:
- 8 lbs 6-8 pounds half boneless ham or 6 -8 lbs semi boneless ham
- 1 can 12 OZ. can ginger ale (not sugar free)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar or sugar free alternative
These are the INSTRUCTIONS for preparation:
- Preheat oven to 315° F
- Place ham in baking dish or roasting pan.
- Score ham diagonally both ways about 1/8″ in.
- Pour ginger ale over top.
- Pat brown sugar all over top and sides of ham.
- Bake according to ham package directions. Usually 20 minutes per pound at 325 degrees.
- Cool and serve.
Many of the family love ham. Some even more than turkey!
It is easy to cut and serve. When sliced thinly it is ready for sandwiches.
Those are my own favorite part of the meal. Rthe sandwiches made later.
The leftover ham is also perfect for omelettes, strata, or bean soup.
I usually save my serving of ham for various leftovers. For the first round I choose turkey to fill my plate. And of course the multitude of sides and desserts to follow.
We eat our main meal when the football game starts. And the grazing of the table lasts all day long.
The ham is great for the smaller meal.
The ginger ale is a perfect companion for the ham.
It helps to remove the salty flavors while it cooks.
And the brown sugar patted on the outside melts as the ham cooks, diluting in the juices emitted from the ham and mixing with the juices.
This reaction helps to keep the sodium and sugar counts lower per serving.
When you eat a slice of this ham your palate is hit with the bubbly taste of the ginger ale as well as the pure flavor of the ham.
The mild sugary taste just adds to the mix to tease your taste buds..
This Ginger Ale topped ham is a great addition to any side dish you serve.
Your family will be amazed at the taste. Don’t tell them the secret ingredient is ginger ale.
They will never guess!
Enjoy!
