This is the perfect time of year to reflect on what you have, what you have given, and what more still can be done. It is a time to rejoice, to sing, and to thank everyone that has touched your life and to let them know what they have given to you. Many people don’t know the kind of impact their words or presence has had upon you. Just like the movie says, it is indeed “A Wonderful Life!”
I am deviating a bit today from posting my usual story, recipe and image post. You may have noticed that lately I have been a bit absent from online other than responding to comments, email, and reading my daily social media threads while occasionally commenting or engaging posts I love.
The reason for this is I have been busy “paying it forward” to those that need a warm meal and dinner to carry them through the trying times of dealing with a sick loved one, a death in the family, a depressing time in their lives, or for a few children and adults that for whatever reason are not residing in their homes during this season.
I started baking, cooking meals, visiting folks that otherwise would be alone, and providing what I can to battered women shelters and children that aren’t with their families. Writing Marilyn’s Treats almost 11 months now has made me keenly aware of what I have been blessed with in my life.
This time of year is always a very difficult and depressing time for me for many reasons. I always celebrate a Christmas week birthday with 11 other family members not counting myself. And a few years ago I lost my mom on December 21. I share all this because I know many, many people also struggle emotionally this time of year.
So this year I decided to be productive by supporting so many others that are suffering. This includes baking all the wonderful treats that so many of you are posting. This year I made a ton of popcorn, snack mixes and over 250 cookies. I packed them in tins, and we delivered them to 20 various families that would otherwise may not have had a treat for themselves and their children.
I will be posting the photos and recipes I made until the end of the year. I hope you see some of your own favorites listed and know that they were made for what I feel is a good cause and enjoyed by those who appreciate them!
Thank you to everyone that reads my blog, supports my efforts, provides the recipes and ideas I use in my posts and everyone that spends some of their precious time on the internet. No matter what you do, who you are, or what you believe I send a very warm and healthy greeting to you and yours!
